Psychotherapy for Writers & Creatives

In addition to being a psychotherapist, I hold an MFA in Creative Writing and my work has been published in print and online in various literary journals. I’ve volunteered with local and national organizations such as PEN America and The Madwomen in the Attic to support emerging writers in the community, and I’ve presented on psychological safety and self-disclosure in memoir writing classes at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs annual conference. These experiences taught me the importance of providing writers and other creative individuals with a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore creative and psychological processes.

My therapeutic approach can benefit those looking to:

  • cultivate their artistic voice

  • express themselves more freely

  • work through creative blocks

  • manage “not good enough” feelings and impostor syndrome

  • develop and sustain a more disciplined creative practice

  • better tolerate uncertainty and rejection

  • increase confidence and strengthen artistic identities

  • quiet the inner critic, and more…

The work we do will be customized to your needs and is suitable for all levels of creativity, whether you are just beginning to explore your creative side or already established within your discipline. Because this is an exploratory and insight-building style of therapy that incorporates psychodynamic, existential, and narrative approaches, some individuals may first benefit from more structured work and/or therapy that focuses on non-creative issues. During the consultation and intake session, we will discuss your concerns and history in depth to better determine fit.
